Lee Ernest Abernathy Jr. “Ookie”, 59, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on November 9, 2025 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Born on November 7, 1966, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Lee lived a life rooted in love, family, and joy. He graduated from Bishop Kenrick High School in 1984 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University and his master’s degree from Averett University. Lee was a self-employed entrepreneur who spent most of his career working in the IT field, where he was known for his dedication, curiosity and talent for solving problems. Outside of work, he had many passions. He loved basketball, traveling, exploring nature and enjoying good food with the people he cared about. His positivity was contagious, and he always focused on the good in life, even during challenging times.

Family was the heart of everything Lee did. He is survived by his son, Chase Abernathy; his daughter, Chandler McDowell (Abernathy); son-in-law Shaq McDowell; and his cherished grandchildren, Audriana and Dominic. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine Abernathy (Davis); his brothers, Alan and John Abernathy; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him deeply.

Lee is preceded in death by his father, Lee E. Abernathy Sr.; his grandmothers, Mary Davis and Ruth Abernathy; and his grandfather, Montgomery Davis.

Lee “Ookie” Abernathy will be remembered for his warmth, humor, kindness and the light he brought to everyone around him. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the love he shared and the family who will forever hold him in their hearts.
