LeRoy Carlton “Pop Pop” Jones, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on November 26, 2025. Born on August 12, 1934, in Washington, D.C., he was the beloved son of Fair and Ruth Jones.

A proud Washingtonian, Mr. Jones graduated from Cardozo High School in 1952, where he was a member of the track team. After graduation, he briefly served as a police officer before beginning a long and dedicated career behind the wheel. He worked for many years as a truck driver for Safeway and later gave his time to Giant. Retirement never slowed him down; he went on to drive a bus for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, becoming a familiar and friendly presence in recreation centers throughout Seat Pleasant and Marlow Heights. He also coached basketball and youth sports, sharing his humor, patience, and easygoing spirit with generations of young people.

In 1973, Mr. Jones married the love of his life, Ruth V. Jones, with whom he shared 50 years of devotion and companionship until her passing in June 2023. Through their union, he embraced a blended family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy.

A lifelong sports fan, he was happiest surrounded by family, friends, and a good football game—cheering faithfully for his Washington Redskins with trademark passion and enthusiasm. Known for the warmth he brought into every room, “Pop Pop” had a gift for laughter and connection. He made friends easily, shared jokes generously, and lived with a lighthearted spirit that touched everyone he met.

Faith played a central role throughout his life. He served faithfully at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Northeast Washington, D.C., before later joining From the Heart Ministries, where he participated in special services and the security ministry. His devotion was lived out through quiet kindness, humility, and service.

Mr. Jones leaves behind a loving family and countless friends who will forever cherish his humor, wisdom, and unwavering love. His legacy is one of joy, hard work, and a life lived fully and well.

A private memorial service will be held at From the Heart Ministries. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honor his memory do so by sharing a story, a laugh, or a simple act of kindness in his name.

He is now reunited with his beloved “Poofis,” at peace and finally home.
