Linda Jane Brokish, née Schaffer, peacefully passed away on March 26, 2026, in Fairfax, Virginia, following a brave battle with dementia. Born on May 14, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, Linda lived a life marked by dedication, creativity, and a deep love for community and family.

Linda’s journey was one characterized by a passion for learning and a commitment to nurturing the minds of others. After earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Luther College, she pursued and achieved a master’s degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She became a national board certified teacher, a testament to her exceptional skill and dedication in education. Linda began her career as a teacher in Fort Dodge, Iowa, before spending cherished time working at Pooh Corner, a local bookstore. Her deep love for books and knowledge ultimately led her to become a beloved school librarian in Lodi, Wisconsin, where she touched countless lives.

Known for her caring nature and creative spirit, Linda was truly a fixture in her community. She was a proud member of the Lodi Rotary Club and involved in Reach Out Lodi, always ready to lend a hand and contribute with kindness and enthusiasm. Her warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Linda’s zest for life extended beyond her professional achievements. She delighted in gardening, knitting, and reading—hobbies that brought her joy and comfort throughout her days. Her love for travel revealed her adventurous soul; she treasured the opportunity to explore new places and immerse herself in the wonders of the world.

Linda leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. She is survived by her precious children, Elizabeth Kressin (Bret) and John Brokish (Candice), and her cherished grandchildren: Jackson, Ryleigh, Reagan, Bradley, and Derek. Their lives, enriched by her guidance and nurturing, stand as living testaments to the remarkable woman she was.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Steve Brokish; her beloved parents, Joanne and Jack Schaffer; and her cousin, Barb Dumont. Though they are no longer here in body, their memories live on in the hearts of all who loved Linda.
