Linda Mary Phipps

September 19, 1944 — July 8, 2025

Vienna, Virginia

Linda Mary Phipps 9/19/1944 – 7/8/2025

Born in Fargo North Dakota; lived in Kansas, Wisconsin, Germany, Okinawa Japan, and Vienna Virginia.

She was known for her intelligent, sharp wit, and her humor was infectious and often dry, inciting or ending a conversation, but never going unnoticed or unappreciated. She was a resourceful problem solver who looked for the most practical answer to a problem, generally doing rather than overthinking. She will be remembered for figuring out public transportation systems in foreign lands for the purposes of getting her sons to school, to acquire groceries at local markets, and to engage cultural experiences wherever in the world she found herself and her family.

Linda was proud of her career as Registrar of Marshall road Elementary School in Vienna VA, and of her service to the Patrick Henry Library Friends of the Library service organization, where she worked on their annual book sale fundraisers. She was also at one time a commissioned artist, antiques dealer and collector, and at one time long ago worked in television as advertisement program director in a small market station.

She was an avid reader who fancied historical novels and was quick to locate the nearest library wherever she made residence. She was adept at gifting books – always finding the right book at the right time for the right person. That was one of the many ways in which she quietly demonstrated her affection. She was a great lover of cats, and was mother to countless fur-babies in her life, most recently hosting a clowder of related felines who adopted her wholeheartedly, sometimes bringing friends and distant cousins over for dinner; all of whom were always warmly welcomed.

Linda was vociferous in her political opinions, and spent time in her retirement years exercising her 1st amendment rights on social media, where she will be fondly remembered by many.

She is survived by her three sons and daughter in law, as well as numerous extended family, and was married to her late Husband Ross Phipps for 51 years.

May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, Linda would have preferred you make a contribution to the DNC, of whom she was a lifelong supporter.
