Lorene E.
Taylor
Apr 15, 1932 — Oct 28, 2026
In loving memory of Lorene (Lori) E. Taylor
Lori, age 94, passed from this life into the arms of her Savior at her home in Burke, Virginia with her family on October 28, 2026. She was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, a small mining town, at the height of the Great Depression, on April 15, 1932 to William and Lillian Johnston. Lori grew up in Canada and enjoyed the love and support of her siblings and their families. While growing up in Canada she attended church and enjoyed many activities with her family and friends.
Her father suffered a heart attack and passed away when she was 16 years old. She went to secretarial school, worked at Woolworth's and several other jobs to support her family. Lori fell in love with William (Bill) Domonsky and married him when she was 19 years old. Bill and Lori had played together when they were young children and their families lived near each other. The couple had three daughters, Pam, Lori and Cindy.
Due to many hardships in Canada, Lori left her marriage and relocated with her three small children to Washington, DC to live with her mother. Lori and her daughters continued to receive the love and support of her aunts and uncles in the area. Lori later married Eugene Taylor in September 1963.
When Lori came to the United States, she worked hard to support her family as a single mother. Her favorite job, and longest running, was working as a manicurist at a barber shop in DC where she met many interesting people.
Lori faithfully attended church upon moving to the states, first at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, in Washington, DC, Downtown Baptist Church, in Alexandria, VA and finally Parkwood Baptist Church, in Annandale, VA, where she was a devoted member for more than 40 years. Lori enjoyed singing in the church choir, creating floral arrangements for the church, decorating for holidays, and helping with kitchen duties and other ministry activities.
Lori loved to travel, especially home to Canada to visit her family. She was a proud Canadian and never missed the opportunity to talk about her family.
Lori is preceded in death by her parents, sister Angel Rhea (Jackie) McGaughey, brother, Fred L. Johnston, son-in-law Philip DuBois, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lori leaves her strongest legacy in her family and the love she had for them. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Pamela Horton (Michael), Laurel Vera (Samuel), and Cynthia DuBois. Granddaughters – Stefanie Hamacher (Justin), Brittany Vera, and Jillian Vera (Zachary Hailpainy). Great Grandsons – Ryan Hamacher (Sophie Bowen/Fiance), Jacob Hamacher (Taylor), Kyle Hamacher, Zachary Hamacher, William Hamacher, and Skylar Murray. Sister-in-law Joyce Johnston, of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, sister-in-law Ruth Taylor, of Warrenton, Virginia, and her nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and the U.S. as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Lori's family wishes to express their gratitude to the numerous family and friends for the cards, prayers, visits, meals, and other support shown throughout Lori's brief illness. The family is especially thankful to Parkwood Baptist Church for its outpouring of love and care.
Visitation will be at Parkwood Baptist Church, 8726 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003 on Friday, November 20th, 2026 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkwood Baptist Church on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Parkwood Baptist Church or Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.
