Lorraine G. Goldberg, a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, artist, and psychologist, passed away peacefully in Loudoun County, Virginia, on May 16, 2025. She was 90 years old.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Lorraine devoted her life to creativity, education, and care for others. She began her career as an art teacher in the Detroit Public Schools, where she inspired generations of students with her deep passion for the arts. A gifted ceramic artist, her work reflected a sensitivity and depth that resonated with all who experienced it.
In the later years of her career, Lorraine became a child psychologist, continuing her lifelong commitment to nurturing young minds and supporting emotional well-being.
After retirement, she devoted herself to ceramics. Her artistic legacy includes a powerful piece entitled Resilience, inspired by a visit to a Jewish cemetery in Prague. The work, a tribute to strength and memory in the face of historical trauma, is permanently on display at the The Zekelman Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Lorraine was the loving wife of the late Stanleigh Goldberg, who passed away in 2020. Together, they built a family grounded in love, learning, and creativity. She is survived by Adam and Elizabeth (Beth) (McMichael) Goldberg; Rachel and Michael Jacobsen; and Robert Mazzeo, husband of her late daughter Naomi Mazzeo. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Quinn and Eurus Goldberg, Sofia, Emma, and Samuel Mazzeo, and Joshua and Lauren Jacobsen.
Lorraine's legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her art, her teaching, her psychological work, and most profoundly, through her family.
