Louise Green, a vibrant force of nature who touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on June 15, 1929, in Washington, DC, Louise's life was a testament to resilience, joy, and the power of a loving heart.

From her youth, Louise demonstrated an incredible work ethic and an unwavering spirit. She began her journey as a laundry maid for a wealthy family and a salad girl at a downtown DC restaurant. Her career path took on new significance when she became a crossing guard, a role she embraced with pride and dedication. Among her many commendable achievements, her acceptance into the United States Post Office stands out as a remarkable milestone—a triumph for African Americans during a time when such accomplishments were still rare. Louise cherished her tenure there, marking it as the highlight of her illustrious career before she eventually retired.

In her retirement, Louise's zest for life remained undiminished. She briefly ventured into catering, showcasing her culinary talents, and in her later years, she found fulfillment as a Foster Grandparent, sharing her wisdom and love with youth and children at schools and daycare centers. Louise never stopped giving of herself, embodying kindness, generosity, and a sincere spirit that lit up every room she entered.

Her education at Armstrong High School, one of only five high schools for Black students during the era of segregation in Washington, DC, laid the foundation for a life lived with purpose. Louise's big energy and loving personality characterized her every interaction. She was selfless in her devotion, always ready with comforting words for those in need.

Louise had an affinity for life's simple pleasures. She loved to party to the tunes of Frankie Beverly, enjoyed steaming crabs, savored her morning coffee, and found solace in praying her rosary with the sunrise. Faith and community played central roles in her life, as she engaged deeply with her church and cherished every moment spent with her family. Louise delighted in traveling, embarking on adventures as a world traveler well into her late 80s, creating cherished memories and learning about cultures across the globe.

Even in her hobbies, Louise embodied her larger-than-life spirit. She delighted in watching daytime TV, enjoying the news and game shows, attending concerts, visiting museums, and basking in the beauty of nature while soaking in the sunshine.

Louise is lovingly remembered by her family, including her granddaughter Jasmin Drain and Aniysa Wilson, grandsons Khari Green and Nazeem Wilson, as well as her great-grandchildren: Khalil Green, Kadir Green, Zenayla Williams, and Jade Drain.

She is predeceased by her husband, David Drain, and her beloved daughter, Angela Drain. Although Louise has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit continues to shine brightly through the lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared.

Louise Green’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and joy. She lived her life fiercely and independently, inspiring generations to embrace life with the same vibrancy she displayed until her final moments. She will be deeply missed, but her light will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
