Maria Luz
Rodriguez
Jan 10, 1933 — May 12, 2026
In Loving Memory of Maria Luz Rodriguez
Maria Luz Rodriguez, affectionately known to her family and friends as "Yaya" and "Grandma Lucy," passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2026 at the age of 93 in Accokeek, Maryland. Maria was born on January 10, 1933, in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. She lived a long, vibrant life centered entirely around her family, who will always remember her by the sweet nicknames that reflected her warmth, love, and maternal spirit. Holding a special place in family history, Maria was proud to be the last remaining sibling of her generation to pass away.
Her beautiful legacy lives on through her devoted children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Edward Espinoza, Jesse Espinoza, Larry Espinoza, and Mario Espinoza, and her daughter, Angelica Maldonado. She was the cherished grandmother of Erica George, Jasmine Parks, Luis Maldonado, Regan Espinoza, Carson Espinoza, Samantha Olson, Eileen Espinoza, and Phoenix (Matthew) Espinoza. She was also the adoring great-grandmother of Emrie and Ezra Parks.
Because she was loved by many, a celebration of life is scheduled in her Daughter's beautiful home of Accokeek Maryland on July 18th, 2026 at 12:00pm for her family and friends to come together and share cherished moments with each other. Followed by a beachside Service of Remembrance to celebrate Maria's beautiful life and 94th birthday will be held on January 10, 2027, at 12:00 PM at La Jolla Shores in San Diego, California. In lieu of traditional flowers, the family requests that attendees bring a single flower to release into the ocean during the ceremony, or make a memorial donation to a charity close to your heart in Grandma Lucy’s honor.
“Your love remains a guiding light, An ocean deep and wide, We feel your warmth in every wave, And walk right by your side.”
