It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Wenzke, who died on January 19, 2025, at the age of 59. Mark was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, whose warmth, humor, and loyalty left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Born on June 18, 1965, Mark was a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, a passion that he shared with friends and family alike. Whether watching games, debating plays, or celebrating victories, his enthusiasm for his team was contagious and a defining part of who he was. Mark was also a huge fan of the Grateful Dead and attended many concerts over the years. He also had a passion for collecting Roman coins. In his free time, Mark enjoyed playing Xbox and was an avid reader, often losing himself in a good book.
Mark’s kind heart made him a true friend and brother. He was always there to offer a listening ear or share a laugh. Though he didn’t marry, his family—especially his siblings, Bob, Michelle, Nicole, and Diana—was his greatest joy, and he took immense pride in the close relationships he built over the years.
Mark is survived by his siblings, Robert J. Wenzke (Bob), Michelle Wenzke, Nicole Connelly, and Diana Barrett, as well as his extended family, who will miss his presence dearly. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and moments of joy he brought to all who knew him.
Mark’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit and love for his family will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
Services will be held later this year, at which time his ashes will be spread at Hawksbill Mountain in Shenandoah National Park, and a portion will be spread in Rome, Italy, later this year at the Coliseum.
