Mary Ann Davey, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, in Fairfax, Virginia, at the age of 70. Born on April 26, 1954, in Eugene, Oregon, Mary Ann's life was a rich tapestry woven from her love for others and her deep appreciation for nature.
A proud graduate of the University of Oregon in 1976, Mary Ann dedicated much of her career to working with senior citizens as an Activity Director in Assisted Living Facilities in both Oregon and Virginia. Her cheerful demeanor and loving spirit made her not only a cherished colleague but also a friend to everyone she met. Mary Ann impacted countless lives, always finding ways to bring joy and a sense of belonging to those she served.
Mary Ann’s enthusiasm extended beyond her professional life. She was an ardent advocate for our natural world, becoming a certified Virginia Master Naturalist. Her tireless efforts in promoting native plants that benefited pollinators and her determination to remove invasive species showcased her profound connection to the earth. The gardens she nurtured in both Virginia and Canada became stunning examples of the beauty native plants can bring to one's surroundings, reflecting her caring touch and passion for the environment.
Her warm heart and adventurous spirit were further illuminated through her many cherished memories. Whether it was trips to the picturesque Oregon Coast, especially to Cannon Beach, kayaking, and hiking at her beloved cottage in Canada, or the incredible experience of backpacking through Europe—eventually returning years later to the captivating landscapes of Ireland and Scotland—Mary Ann created a multitude of beautiful moments with her family that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Mary Ann had a zest for life that spilled into her personal interests. She enjoyed golfing with family and friends, walking, reading, and indulging in the comforting pleasure of binge-watching the latest series. Her cheerful personality made these moments all the more delightful, and her ability to connect with others transformed simple gatherings into joyous occasions.
Survived by her devoted husband, Peter Davey, and cherished son, Patrick Davey, as well as loving sisters Nancy Leland and Kathleen (Michael) Pugsley-Christensen, brother John Pat (Tae Song) Christensen, and sister-in-law Teri Christensen, Mary Ann's legacy will continue through the strength of her family. Her heartache is deeply felt by the family, notably as they remember their precious daughter, Colleen Margaret Davey, who predeceased her, along with her parents, Charles and Catherine (Kenny) Christensen, and her brother, Gordon Christensen.
A funeral mass will be offered for the repose of her soul at St. Agnes Catholic Church (1910 North Randolph St., Arlington, Virginia) on Monday, November 11th at 11:00am, followed by a reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Earth Sangha, a volunteer-based non-profit charity dedicated to the propagation of local native plants, restoration of native plant communities, and controlling invasive alien plants.
Mary Ann Davey will be remembered as a beacon of light, an unwavering supporter of those she loved, and a steward of nature's beauty. Her spirit will forever nurture and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
