Mary Ann Floto

Mary Ann Floto of Washington D.C. passed away at the age of 81 on January 30th, 2025. Mary Ann was born on July 23, 1943, to John and Mary Wittlinger in Willowick, Ohio. After high school she ventured to Washington D.C. and accepted a job at the Central Intelligence Agency, where she met her future husband, Peter Floto. Mary Ann and Peter went on to have two children, Joseph and Matthew. She soon left the CIA to raise her sons while attending American University to earn a degree in Business Administration. 


Mary Ann was active in local politics, working as a community organizer for various D.C. mayoral and council member campaigns. An avid baseball fan, Mary Ann helped build a coalition of community support to bring Major League Baseball back to Washington D.C. when she worked for the Mayor’s Office. She also played an active role in events to engage and enrich her neighbors through the Palisades Community Association, particularly the annual 4th of July parade and picnic. Mary Ann spent the majority of her career working for the United Way of the National Capital Area, where she was employed until her retirement. 


Mary Ann was predeceased by her brother, John Phillip, and is survived by her husband Peter, her sister Charlene and both sons.


A public memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on March 28th at Our Lady of Victory Church in Washington D.C. In remembrance of Mary Ann Floto, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to United Way of the National Capital Area.
