Melinda Lee Reubens, affectionately known as Mindy, passed away on May 15, 2026, in Woodbridge, Virginia, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born on July 5, 1969, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Melinda’s life was a testament to love, service, and creativity that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind her cherished husband, Justin Reubens; daughters Amanda Moore and Rebecca Bringham; son Jacob Bringham; her mother, Penelope Kingsbury, and stepfather, Robert Kingsbury; siblings Michael McKee and Meegan Watts; stepsiblings: Pamela Primrose, Greg Kingsbury, and Krista Grimm; and cousin David Drushler. Melinda also rests in the loving memory of her father, James McKee; her grandparents, Doris and Arly Prince; and her aunt and uncle, Priscilla and Paul Drushler.
A graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, where she embraced both academics and athletics by running track. Melinda continued to invest in her professional growth through courses at Northern Virginia Community College. Her career was deeply rooted in compassion and dedication, marked by more than a decade of service to Prince William County. Her journey through various community-focused roles led her from assisting families through Home Instead Senior Care to pivotal work at the County Government, notably within the Fire Marshal’s Office—where fate introduced her to her beloved husband, Justin Reubens. Later, as part of the Community Service Board, she played an instrumental role in client support and was key to planning and establishing the County’s Crisis Response Center program, embodying her lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
A devoted mother and supporter of her children’s dreams, Melinda took immense pride in witnessing their achievements—from Jacob’s wrestling competitions to Rebecca’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitions, and Amanda’s pursuit of social work, where Melinda’s guidance and encouragement were invaluable. She delighted in the small yet meaningful traditions of family life: expertly stuffing Christmas stockings, decorating beautiful birthday cakes, designing imaginative Halloween costumes, and assembling Easter baskets that brought joy and wonder. Her creativity flourished in every corner of her life, whether through her avid crafting, her talent for sewing, or her keen eye for design and landscaping, which lent her home a distinct personal charm.
Her compassionate nature extended beyond her family. Melinda forged enduring friendships, weaving a close-knit circle with her best friends Merrilee Stanley, Brenda LePage, and Deborah Boyd, among others. Known for her open home and open heart, she embraced family, friends, and neighborhood children alike, creating a sanctuary of warmth and kindness. Her artistic flair was matched by her attentiveness to detail, her focused determination, and a gentle kindness that made her a beacon of support and love.
Melinda's spirit was enriched by the companionship of her two rescued dogs, Daisy and Kitzell, whom she and Justin lovingly cared for and included in their many RV adventures. Her love for furry friends even extended to abandoned kittens in her garden, for which she ensured they went to loving homes.
Melinda Lee Reubens’ legacy is one of unwavering love, boundless generosity, and a life beautifully lived in service to others. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. In the echo of her kindness and creativity, she continues to shine—a mother, a friend, a dedicated soul whose heart will be deeply missed yet warmly remembered.
Melinda's family would also like to show appreciation to Faye, Linda, and Helen with Capital Caring Hospice, as they provided support and care to not only Melinda but also to our family during this time.
