Merwin Leon Dorsey, born on April 3, 1954, departed this world unexpectedly on January 7, 2026, in Alexandria, Virginia. He leaves behind a legacy characterized by his remarkable craftsmanship and an unwavering dedication to working with his hands. Known as a great handyman, Merwin demonstrated an impressive ability to fix and create, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of experiencing his talents.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Latonia Oliver, who was his partner and confidante. Merwin's extended family includes his beloved mother-in-law, Lorraine Oliver, and father-in-law, Norvel Oliver. He cherished his sister-in-law, Lawanda Banks, and maintained a close relationship with his two nieces, Erica and Michelle, as well as his nephew, Michael. His family also includes a great-nephew, Jihad,and three great-nieces, LaChrista, Tyonna, and Kaleyah, alongside his two great-great-nephews, Delani and Elijah. He also leaves behinds sisters and brothers (the Dorsey Family).
Merwin's presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends, many of whom have warm memories of his skillful hands and generous spirit. His commitment to his craft and the joy he found in manual work will remain a treasured part of his legacy. As they navigate this profound loss, his loved ones are reminded of the time they shared with him and the impact he made in their lives.
