Ming Fong Hsu

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Mother-in-Law and Grandmother, Ming Fong Hsu, MD, of Vienna, Virginia. She was 98 years old. Ming was born in Wuzhou, Guangxi, China on December 20, 1925. She went to High School and College in Guilin, China and Medical School in Guangzhou, China. During her 5th year of Medical School her studies were interrupted by the Communist Revolution. She migrated to Taipei, Taiwan in June of 1949 to complete her final year and receive her Medical Degree and where she continued to practice medicine. 

On October 10, 1951, Ming married her High School sweetheart, Pao Shin Shih, who had accompanied her to Taiwan. They had two children before the family immigrated to the United States in 1967. Dr Hsu practiced medicine in NYC and New Jersey before retiring in 1992.

Ming Fong Hsu, MD was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Pao Shin Shih, who passed away on March 4, 2024 at the age of 100. Ming is survived by her son, Johnson Shih of West Palm Beach, FL and her daughter, Jane Thornton of Vienna, VA, her Son-in-Law William Thornton, also of Vienna, Va and her two Granddaughters, Kim Thornton of Brooklyn, NY and Michelle Thornton of Alexandria, VA.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at the family home in Vienna, VA
