In Loving Memory of Nancy Covarrubias
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Matriarch, Nancy Covarrubias (Cespedes), age 84, in Fairfax, VA.
Born in La Paz, Bolivia and raised in Cochabamba, Nancy was the eldest of six children in a large, loving family. She attended an all-girls Catholic school in Bolivia. In her early twenties, Nancy moved to the United States, where she settled in Arlington, VA, soon after arriving in Washington, DC, and ultimately made her home in Fairfax, VA.
Nancy embraced life with unwavering love and devotion to God. Her faith was so strong that she considered the convent as a young girl. Her cherished family—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—were the light of her life. She instilled in them a spirit of positivity and optimism that will continue to shine brightly.
As a true matriarch, Nancy created a home filled with warmth, delicious food, and a vibrant atmosphere. She was renowned for her incredible cooking and was a gracious hostess who loved gathering her loved ones around the table. Her green thumb was evident in her thriving garden, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Nancy also had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dog, Huey. Her infectious optimism and ability to find joy in everyday moments will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nancy dedicated 30 years of her life to serving as an employee of Pentagon Federal Credit Union in Arlington and later in Old Town Alexandria.
She is survived by her loving children, George, Maria Gaetjen (Mark), and Marcy. She is predeceased by her parents José Antonio and Maria Luisa, her husband Jorge , sister Carmen, and brother Gonzalo.
A funeral mass, followed by an interment, will be held on Monday, August 18th, at 12 PM at St. Mary of Sorrows Historic Catholic Church, 11112 Fairfax Station Rd. (Ox and Fairfax Station Rd), Fairfax Station, VA 22039.
