Listen to Obituary

Oliver Thane Seager was born on December 6, 1933 in England, and passed away on February 16, 2026 surrounded by family in his Virginia home.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joy Seager and their four adult children: Mark and his wife Karen and children Hannah, Ellie, Zach and Ben; Kevin and his wife Karen and children Liana (Michael) Kowaleski, Caleb, Melody and Elijah; Colin and his wife Christine and children Ashleigh (Adam) Ng, Katie, Michael, Alyssa, Matthew and Kaylee; and Vivian. His first great-grandchild, Austin, was born in July 2025.

Thane received his bachelor's degree from Bristol University and was an accomplished translator for the World Bank who spoke at least seven languages. His career brought him to the United States in 1970.

He enjoyed being outdoors – gardening with Joy, tending to their yard, and appreciating the birds and wildlife that visited. He was also an avid reader, enjoying history and comic books.

Thane was very involved in the ministries of Reston Bible Church, where he served on the elder and missions boards and could often be found serving in the nursery on Sunday mornings. In his later years he attended Cedar Run Community Church.

Thane loved to travel the world and this passion can be seen in his children and grandchildren. Throughout his adult life he supported Christian missions through visiting missionaries and serving on or advising various mission boards.
