Patricia Joan King (Pat), age 76, passed away peacefully in her home on February 15, 2026.

She was born on October 14, 1949, in Charleston, WV to William M. King and Elaine Dugan King.

She was very proud of her West Virginia roots and loved to tell people where she was from. Pat graduated high school in 1967 and took a job with the FBI which moved her to the DC Metro area. She later retired from the government and took a job at a pediatric office where she worked for the next 21 years. She took pride in her office work and often became a resource for friends with medical questions. After retirement Pat moved in with her two best friends and they often referred to themselves as the “Golden Girls.” You could often find them laughing and talking around the kitchen table.

If you knew Pat for any length of time you knew she loved her cat Kate, the mountains, the beach, the pool, and a good seafood dinner.

She leaves behind her best friends, Wilma Johnson and Nancy Moyer. While she had no biological children, she leaves behind her godchild, Jessica Williams (Keith); Melissa Hurst (Joel); Robert Johnson (Christine); as well as their children who all viewed her as close family. She is preceded in death by her father, William M. King, her mother, Elaine Dugan King, and her beloved cat, Kate.

In true Pat fashion she did not want any formal arrangements, so she will be cremated and laid to rest in the mountains by her close friends at a later time.

To my Godmother,

As a kid I looked forward to seeing you every Saturday when you spent the day with us and brought me a new book. My childhood is filled with weekend adventures with you, mom and Nancy. And as an adult I’ve loved watching the real life “Golden Girls” laugh, joke, bicker and show me the meaning of friendship. You’ve been with me through all my major life events (and mundane, daily life) and I’m having a hard time imagining the future without you. Thank you for instilling in me my love of reading, for loving my babies so much, and being my mom’s best friend. I love you and miss you already Pat - I couldn’t have asked for a better godmother.

Jessie
