Ray Harry Hayman Jr., age 54, of Fletcher, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026 in Fairfax, Virginia after a battle with cancer. Ray is now in the presence of our loving, heavenly Father.

Since childhood, Ray was known for his rebellious streak, but those who knew him well understood that beneath that exterior was a sentimental mush with a big heart. Ray worked hard his entire life and will be remembered for his sense of humor and his genuine love for all critters, great and small. In fact, it would be challenging to find many species he hadn’t cared for, including his adorable squirrel Scooter Pooter. In addition to critters, Ray had a fondness for toys and video games-- especially nostalgic ones--music, and plants. He loved sharing these passions with others.

He is survived by his step father, William Koch, and his two sisters, Gail Roberts (Earl) of Fairfax, VA and Angela Xhakolli (Dritan) also of Fairfax, VA, three nephews, one niece, and many close cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Teressa Lorene Ingle, and grandparents George and Lorene Ingle.

Ray will be fondly remembered by his family and friends and his presence will be deeply missed. A memorial service is being planned for later in January in the Asheville area.
