Renee Austin, 63, of Washington, D.C., reunited with her Heavenly Father on June 27, 2026. Born January 28, 1963, to the late Claudia Mae Barnes Corbett and James B. Austin, Renee grew up alongside her three sisters, Cynthia, Denise, and April, sharing a close-knit bond and many fond memories together, including family gatherings and childhood adventures. Growing up, the sisters spent much of their time with their grandparents, Frank and Isabelle Barnes, whom they lovingly referred to as “Daddy” and “Ma.” The loss of their mother had a lasting impact on the family, shaping Renee’s deep sense of responsibility and care for others.

A lifelong Washingtonian, Renee graduated from Potomac Senior High School. She was a dedicated scholar who continued her educational journey, earning her undergraduate degree from the University of the District of Columbia and her Master’s degree from American InterContinental University. She built a distinguished career as an Information Management Specialist with the Office of Management and Budget for the United States Government, retiring in November 2019 after years of service. Throughout her professional life, Renee was also committed to advocacy work, using her skills in grant writing to support various community and service initiatives.

A woman of faith, Renee was a devoted member of Emory United Methodist Church, where she served as a “Wisdom Warrior,” a role reflecting her commitment to encouragement and spiritual growth within her church community.

Renee lived a life rich in interests. She was an avid reader and a true lover of the arts and music. She thrived in the company of others and was always ready to open her heart and home to those fortunate enough to know her. She was known for her generous spirit and lifelong devotion to her family, consistently giving of herself in service to those she cared for. She also had a profound love for animals, and her compassionate heart found immense joy in the companionship of her beloved pets: her German Shepherd, Shabaaz; her Yorkies, Asantae and Shanti; and her Chihuahua, Yumi.

Renee is survived by her loving sister, Denise Austin; her nephew and her many nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews; as well as a host of aunts, cousins, and friends.

She is reunited in spirit with her parents, Claudia Mae Barnes Corbett and James B. Austin; her grandparents, Frank and Isabelle Barnes; and her sisters, Cynthia Barnes and April Austin. Her warmth, selflessness, and the love she shared with others will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
