August 30, 1953 — March 17, 2025

Zephyrhills, Florida

Ricardo A. Spalding Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, peacefully departed this world on Monday, March 17, 2025, in Washington D.C. at the age of 71.

Born on August 30, 1953, in Colón, Panamá, Ricardo was a pillar of strength and protection in his family. Upon graduating from Rainbow City High School in 1972, Ricardo’s sense of compassion and care for others led him to work at Gorgas Army Hospital in Ancón, Panamá. In 1974, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and emigrated to the United States, honorably serving as a hospital corpsman until 1979. After serving in the Navy, Ricardo settled in San Diego and pursued a successful career in federal law enforcement.

Ricardo was the beloved son of George Samuel Spalding and Sabina Millicent Spalding (Laurie), who preceded him in death. He is now reunited in heaven with his daughter Michelle Muñoz, grandson Khalonn Stubbs, and eight siblings, Daniel Spalding, Brenda Grant (Spalding), Clinton Spalding, Gladstone Spalding, Robert Spalding, Joe Clarke, Ruddy Spalding, and Gloria Spalding.

Left to cherish his memories are his son Ricardo A. Spalding Jr. and daughter Eva Maria Spalding, his sister Vilma Stennett (Spalding), as well as six grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ricardo was a man of unwavering compassion and deep love for those closest to him. He was a protective presence and he stood as a shield for his family, ensuring their well-being at all times. His stern demeanor reflected his desire to guide and support those he cared for, but beneath it was a heart filled with pure, unconditional love. Although Ricardo had a seriousness that earned him admiration and respect, he never missed an opportunity to lighten the mood. His sarcastic humor was infectious, and his ability to make others laugh brought joy in countless moments.

Ricardo balanced strength and warmth in a way that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though our grief is profound, we find solace in knowing his spirit lives on, watching over us and inspiring us to live with love for our families, just as he did. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
