Robert ("Bob") John Bray, a cherished member of his community and beloved family man, passed away on February 4, 2026, in Ashburn, Virginia. Born on June 17, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he led a life full of purpose, dedication, and passion.
Bob was a prominent and deeply respected attorney who dedicated more than four decades to the practice of labor and health care law. He guided clients through complex challenges and left a lasting mark on the legal community. From 1988-1992, Bob worked as Counsel to Pennsylvania Governor Robert Casey. He pursued his education with vigor, graduating from St. Joseph's Prep, followed by LaSalle University, and ultimately earning his Juris Doctor from Villanova University. His educational background laid a strong foundation for a career in which he would make a significant impact.
A proud veteran, Bob served in the United States Marine Corps for six years, embodying the values of honor and service throughout his lifetime. His military experience shaped not only his character but also his approach to professional and personal challenges.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bob was a man of many interests and hobbies. His love for travel took him around the globe, exploring diverse cultures and landscapes. A dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan, he cherished the excitement and camaraderie that came with cheering for his favorite football team. Moreover, he found joy in recreational pursuits such as scuba diving and skiing, activities that fostered a sense of adventure within him.
Bob is survived by his loving spouse, Patricia Bray, his four children and their families: Brian Bray and his wife, Michelle, Gavin Bray and his wife, Franciska, Tara Bray Dickman, and Brendan Bray and his wife, Courtney. He is also remembered by his fourteen grandchildren, two stepdaughters, and their five children. Bob's legacy continues in the hearts of his family, who will forever treasure the memories and life lessons he imparted.
He is preceded in death by his children's mother, Dr. Susan Bray.
Bob Bray leaves behind a legacy of dedication both at work and at home. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be scheduled at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Sterling, Virginia.
