Dr. Robert “Bob” Raymond Vincent Wiederkehr passed away on March 5 at the age of 95 in McLean, VA. Bob was born on February 9, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to a French mother and Swiss father. He grew up in a poorer area of Chicago surrounded by three siblings including his younger brother Paul with whom he retained a close bond until Paul’s passing several years ago.
Bob graduated from Carl Schurz High School and his job as a paperboy with the Chicago Tribune led to his first of many scholarships.
After attaining a BS, MS, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, he worked for several years for the Dow Chemical company.
In 1959 while working at Dow, Bob married Yvonne Teague of Sidcup, Kent, England .
After Dow, Bob decided to change careers and another scholarship led him to attaining a Masters in Statistics from Stanford University.
Following Stanford, Bob embarked on an illustrious career as an operations research analyst working for various Department of Defense agencies and defense contractors. Bob’s career took him to Key West, Washington DC, Italy, and Virginia Beach.
Bob and Yvonne finally settled in Falls Church, Virginia where they raised their two sons, David and Christopher.
A man who cherished his family above all else, Bob was also defined by his passion for travel, sports, and an insatiable appetite for knowledge.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Yvonne, his sons David (Sarah) and Christopher (Joana Mota), and his beloved grandchildren Caitlin, Toby, and Simon.
