Ronald “Ron” E. Deane of Springfield, Virginia passed away peacefully on December 5, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. He was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania on February 2, 1929, to Kenneth R. Deane and Irene A. Phillips, and was raised in Washington, D.C.

Ron attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Central High School in 1948, where he played football and basketball, participated in the Cadet Corps, and served as Class Officer at graduation.

Ron proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, after beginning his federal career as a cartographer with the Army Map Service. Following his military service, he continued a distinguished 25-year civilian career on the staff of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His dedication was recognized with the prestigious Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, awarded to him by Secretaries Melvin Laird, Donald Rumsfeld, and Harold Brown. He retired from government service in 1981 after 33 years of service.

Family meant everything to Ron. He married Olga Patricia McNeil in 1948, and together they raised two children, G. Scott Deane and Karen Patricia Deane Mercado. Pat passed away in 1981 after 33 years of marriage. In 1985, Ron married Louisa Ames, and the two shared a wonderful life built on love, laughter, and partnership for 41 years. Ron also embraced Louisa’s sons, Andrew and Daniel Ames, as his own. He was immensely proud of his expanding family that now includes 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored their Pappy.

Ron was an avid golfer and a proud member of Springfield Golf & Country Club since 1963. He served the club as President, as a board member, and in numerous committee roles. More importantly, he served as a beloved friend. His presence was a fixture on the course, where he was equally appreciated for a smooth swing, a quick joke, and a generous heart.

Ron’s legacy is one defined by service, love, humor, and steadfast loyalty. He was deeply respected by his peers, adored by his family, and cherished by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
