In Loving Memory of Ruth E. Arthur:

Ruth E. Arthur, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in 1940 in a remote tribal region of Madhya Pradesh, India, Ruth lived a life defined by faith, compassion, and service. She was raised in a Christian home in India by her father, a pastor who was affiliated with the Canadian Presbyterian Church of Ontario, Canada and mother, who was a Registered Nurse. The values they instilled in her became the foundation of a lifelong devotion to Jesus Christ, her family, and to caring for countless others.

Ruth completed high school in 1955. Answering a calling to serve through nursing, she attended the School of Nursing at Christian Medical College & Hospital (CMC) in Ludhiana, India, and earned a General Nursing and Midwifery diploma in 1958. She continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1986 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India.

In 1987, Ruth immigrated to Virginia and faithfully cared for nursing home residents until her retirement in 2015, at the age of 75. Her long nursing career of 57 years reflected her gentle spirit, strength, and deep commitment to bringing comfort and dignity to those in her care.

Ruth faced many health challenges with courage. Through every season, her faith remained a source of hope and strength. Ruth had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She believed deeply in the resurrection, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the promise of eternal life. Though her passing brings profound sorrow, her loved ones find comfort in knowing that she is at peace in the presence of her Savior.

She leaves behind her husband Edwin Arthur, three beloved children - Ron, Madhu and Priya, two grandchildren - Nicholas & Gabby, and many relatives and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and devotion. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and faithful servant of God.

Our lives have changed with Ruth's passing, and our world will not be the same without her. Yet her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the patients she cared for, the faith she shared, and the many lives she touched.
