Schuyler Van Doren Bates

Schuyler "Scott" Van Doren Bates, 76, of Frederick, MD, passed away on June 2, 2024. He was born on February 11, 1948, in Washington, DC.

Scott was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Charrie Bates, and his children Sam and Viviana Bates (Milena, Carson, and Camila), Rachel and Noah Paci (Ella and Dylan), Dan and Tiffany Bates (TC, Will Parker, Remi, and Roman), Mike and Stephanie Bates. He is also survived by his brother Darryl Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Walling Bates and Opal Lee Morris Bates.

During his career, Scott wore many hats, working as a Chef and Bartender, Motorcycle Courier, Stationary Engineer, and Sales Professional. However, he found his passion as a Certified Master Arborist at Bartlett Tree Experts, where he dedicated over 20 years of service. 

Scott was known for his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, and walking. He was a church softball coach and a dedicated member of Covenant Life Church and Cornerstone Chapel.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Scott's life will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 11:00 am at Covenant Life Church, 7501 Muncaster Mill Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

Scott will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
