Seongjeom Joo

Seongjeom Joo (주성점) of Annandale, VA passed away on the early morning of April 21, 2025. He was born on July 28, 1943 and grew up in Busan, Korea. He was the second of four boys. After completing his associates degree, he worked as an electronic technician for Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) in Busan. In 1977, he met and married his wife, Okin. They started a family and lived in Busan and Ulsan before relocating to the United States in 1987. They settled in Northern Virginia surrounded by relatives and in-laws and raised their two sons in Arlington. He worked as an electronic technician for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) until his retirement in 2017.

He loved the outdoors and being close to nature, so he spent lots of time hiking in Shenandoah National Park and watching nature documentaries. He also enjoyed sports and games, particularly watching soccer and playing Baduk (Go). Above all, he loved his family and was very proud of his sons and daughter-in-laws, frequently sharing their academic and professional accomplishments with everyone he met.

Seongjeom is predeceased by his parents (주두흠, 한성수) and older brother (주달점) in Korea. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Okin (주옥인); his son Brandon (주원태), daughter-in-law Maria, and granddaughter Isabel; son DJ (주동진) and daughter-in-law Sophia; and two younger brothers (주관점, 주형점) in Korea.

A private service for family and close friends will be held at St. Paul Chung Catholic Church in Fairfax, VA on April 24, 2025.
