Shelton (Joe) Brent Hensley, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a respected member of the Laurel, Maryland community, passed away on January 17, 2026, at George Washington University Hospital at the age of 78. Born on August 13, 1947, in Laurel, Joe was a beloved figure known for his hard work, his dependable nature, and his ever-present sense of humor.

Joe was self-employed as a home-improvement contractor, where he served the Laurel area for many years, earning the respect and admiration of his clients and fellow tradespeople. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his passion for life and his unfailing willingness to assist friends and family in their time of need.

A man of diverse interests, Joe found joy in various activities. He loved hunting, fishing, and crabbing, activities that allowed him to connect deeply with nature. His summer gatherings were legendary, with their home often being the go-to place for friends and family to enjoy fresh crabs. He was also an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR and the Baltimore Ravens, and he devoted countless hours to supporting his grandson, Zach Hensley, at wrestling matches and tournaments throughout Zach’s wrestling years.

Joe's military service further exemplified his character. He was drafted into the Army and served in Korea during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his readiness to serve.

A member of the Laurel Moose Lodge and the American Legion, Joe embraced community involvement wholeheartedly, making numerous friendships along the way. His spirit will always resonate within the walls of those local establishments, as he was known for spreading laughter and good cheer among his peers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Hensley; son, Paul Hensley; daughter-in-law, Linda Hensley; and grandson, Zachary Hensley. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings—Dorothy Brown, Travis Hensley, Gary Hensley, and Kay Hall—along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Dale Hensley, and father, Frank Leo Hensley.
