Stuart E.
Goldberg
April 27, 1944 – March 28, 2026
Stuart Evan Goldberg, 81, passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2026 at home in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born on April 27th, 1944 to Isadore and Beatrice (Silberman) Goldberg in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Stu graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem before attending Pennsylvania State University. He began his career in the data processing and information technology fields at the Bethlehem Steel Company, going on to work for Sperry Univac from 1970 to 1986. During that time, Stu lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, before eventually settling in Virginia. In 1997, after working for other federal contractors for several years, he joined the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. He retired as The Chief of Legal Technology at the Office of the General Counsel in 2015.
In 1999, Stu met Pai Nam “Richard” Cheung, and they soon became life partners. The two were married in 2014, at which point they moved into their Leesburg home. They shared a passion for cruises and travel that took them all around the world. Stu loved classical music and musical theatre. His film collection was a veritable treasure trove. From the dawn of computers he was on the cutting edge of technology and always stayed current. He enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, watches and gadgets of all kinds, that none of us can figure out how to use. He loved airplanes from an early age and acquired his private pilot license to fly his daughters around the Northeast.
Stu has two daughters, Laura and Donna, from his previous marriage. He loved them dearly and was very proud of their accomplishments.
Stu is survived by his beloved spouse, Richard Cheung, their dog Bobby, his daughters, Laura (Michele) Goldberg of Warrington, PA, and Donna (Tom) Janiszewski of Tranquility, NJ, his grandchildren Billy, Elizabeth (Ross), Novalee and Ben, and his sister, Janice (Bill) Fischel of Hanover, NH. He will be fondly remembered by his nephew and nieces and the Goldberg, Pontz, Rosen, and Rabb families.
We all miss him deeply!
A cremation ceremony was held on April 1st, 2026. A family gathering in Pennsylvania is planned for later this year.
