Obituary for Susan Ann Flynn

Susan Ann Flynn, 72, passed away peacefully on July 17 after a courageous battle withcancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.

Susan was the daughter of Charles W. Flynn Jr. and Martha Fessler Flynn of NorthHills, Pittsburgh.

Susan was the beloved sister of Charles William “Bill” Flynn, III and his wife, Kathryn,and the cherished aunt of their children, Kaitlyn Flynn and Charles William “Wills” Flynn,IV. She was also the cherished aunt of D. Patrick Gallagher III and his wife, Jaclyn, andDr. Charles William “CW” Gallagher and his wife, Doris; beloved great-aunt of Patrickand Jaclyn’s children, Willa and Sadie; brother-in-law Daniel P. Gallagher, Jr. ofPittsburgh; and cousin of Marcia Fessler Drozd, Edward Fessler III, and their families.

She was predeceased by her sister, Eileen Flynn Gallagher, whom she loved dearly andshared a special bond of sisterhood.

After graduating from Trinity College, Susan moved from Pittsburgh to the Washington,D.C. area and eventually made her home in Arlington. She continued her education atGeorgetown University, where she trained as a paralegal, before beginning a long andaccomplished career in real estate. Her professional journey included years with MCIand, later, two decades with Northrop Grumman Corporation, where she served asTransaction Manager in the Real Estate Division until her retirement in 2024. Susanapproached her work with quiet dedication, dependability, and integrity, earning therespect of colleagues who became lasting friends—relationships she treasuredthroughout her life.

Susan leaves behind cherished memories of her deep love for family, her passion fortravel and her many memorable visits to her niece and nephews throughout life. And wewould be remiss if we did not mention her special rapport with her two-faithful fur-sidekicks, Corky and Sophia. Susan deeply appreciated her friendship and travels withher friend Auerlie, and became Godmother to Leo, whose enthusiasm and exuberancealways brought a smile to Susan’s face.

We are deeply grateful to the many people who offered Susan kindness,encouragement, and steady support over the past few years. Special thanks andacknowledgment are extended to Dr. Dave and Mary Schreiner, Susan’s friends Dee,Jan, Beth, Nora, and Berta, who assisted Susan during the last few months of her life.

A Roman Catholic Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington onJuly 24 at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Michael Folmar serving as celebrant. Family andfriends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Susan’s life.
