Susan Carol Johnson of Woodbridge, VA passed away peacefully at Westminster at Lake Ridge on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Susie died of natural causes.
Susie was the daughter of the late Col. James W. Minow, a career Air Force Officer and WWII pilot, and the late Ruth Howell Minow. Born in San Bernardino, California, Susie moved extensively as a member of an Air Force family, growing up in Munich, Germany, State College, PA, Topeka KS, and St. George, Bermuda. She graduated from Groveton High School in Alexandria, VA and attended the University of Eastern Kentucky. She worked as an administrator at the Pentagon for both the departments of the Army and Air Force and was a board member of the Friends of the Potomac Library.
Susie married James Francis Johnson in 1966 with whom she celebrated 40 years of marriage before his passing in 2006. They enjoyed time together on the Potomac and hosting festivities around their pool. She is survived by a brother, Jim Minow, of Leesburg, VA, and by nieces Carson Minow and Michele Price, and nephews Brandon Minow, David Corcoran, Matt Corcoran, and Richard Scheid. Also surviving are sister- and brother-in-law Claire and Brian Scheid, brothers in-law Tom Corcoran and Michael Johnson, and sisters-in-law Margarita Sanchez and Jan Hake.
Beyond her contributions as a rambunctious and generous twin, wife, sister, daughter and aunt, Susie was a lifelong friend to many. An avid gardener, limerick writer, and “Dog Ma,” she opened her Woodbridge home to countess pups and family members. She knew what it meant to be a good neighbor, and was always there with a twinkle in her eye for the many people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Patricia Ann Corcoran. As twins, Susie and Pat were inseparable in life.
