Terry Lee Burgess

Terry Lee Burgess, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away quietly at home on Monday, July 28, 2025. He was 79.

He was born December 2, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, the adopted son of Aubrey Lee Burgess and Hazel Lucille Wacey Burgess. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and was stationed for a time in Germany. He left the Air Force in 1968. Soon after that, he returned to Germany, working on or near the U.S. bases there for more than 30 years. He returned to the United States in 2000, where he met his wife, Phyllis Marie Gilmore. They married on February 14, 2014, at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church in Fairfax Country, Virginia.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janine Burgess Russell Seay. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and his brother Brian Burgess, as well as three nieces, Tracie Russell Micklitz, Cindy Russell Hay, and Melissa Burgess Pack, and their children.

A memorial service is planned but has not yet been scheduled.
