Thanh Luu

Thanh Luu, 89, passed away peacefully in Arlington, VA on May 25, 2024 with her loving nieces and nephews by her side. Thanh was born on March 6, 1935 in Haiphong, Vietnam. She was raised in Vietnam by her parents along with her 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She came to the United States in 1958 on a scholarship to study nutrition as a graduate student at Syracuse University. Upon graduation she returned to Vietnam and unable to utilize her nutrition degree, became an English teacher. She taught for a number of years until she emigrated to the United States to join Khoa, her older brother. She spent her professional career working as a data entry technician for a hospice care provider in Falls Church, VA. Thanh was known for her intelligence, kindness, generosity, and soft-spoken nature.

In her free time, Thanh loved watching Korean movies, reading, sewing, gardening, and line dancing. She enjoyed going to get togethers with her older brother’s family and monthly lunch gatherings with her friends.

Thanh is survived by her sister in Paris, her sister and brother in Vietnam, and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial ceremony will be held in her honor. Thanh was much loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
