Tirrell "Terry" Dean McCuiston passed away on February 3, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia, at the age of 53 due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He was born on May 28, 1971, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Terry grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and was raised by his parents, Norma and Jack Rein. Growing up just two years apart, Terry and his brother, Dennis, were inseparable. His mom doted on him and treated him like a little prince, i.e., he was given everything his heart desired. When Terry was 8 years old, his sister, Stephanie, was born. Terry embraced his role as a big brother with love, always protective and nurturing.
As a teenager, Terry was both athletic and artistic—equally at home on the field as he was playing guitar or drawing. He had a kind heart and a natural warmth that made people feel at ease.
Terry was known for his kindness, warmth, and unwavering commitment to becoming the best version of himself. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, greeting others with sincerity and always striving to uplift those around him. Though he faced challenges with his mental health, he never stopped showing up for himself and others. He found strength in community, particularly in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he became a steady presence and a source of encouragement.
Terry was a pillar of the Serenity Club community, a club regular who embodied the Alcoholics Anonymous adage, “keep coming back - it works if you work it.” Ever a regular at many daily meetings, he was a kind and strong presence and a friend to many. His bravery and openness in recovery spaces were especially impactful—he led by example, often being the first to share in AA meetings his experience, strength, and hope with his community, creating a space for others to follow. Whether it was through his words, his presence, or his willingness to be vulnerable, Terry made sure no one felt invisible. His dedication to growth and connection left a lasting impact on those around him. He is dearly missed and is fondly remembered by hundreds of his friends at Serenity Club.
Terry is survived by his loving sister, Stephanie Alexandra Rein, and his brother, Dennis Clarence McCuiston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) in his memory.
A service to honor Terry's life will be held tentatively on his birthday, May 28th. Specifics will be announced on a later date.
