Valerie Myles, a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Born on October 26, 1956, in Washington, DC, Valerie lived a life marked by kindness, empathy, and unwavering compassion.
With a remarkable career spanning 38 and a half years at the U.S. Dirtson Senate Cafeteria, Valerie exemplified dedication and excellence in her work. Over more than two decades, she earned the distinguished honor of being named Employee of the Month over 20 times, a testament to her tireless commitment and the respect she garnered from colleagues and patrons alike.
Valerie was deeply proud of her role as a grandmother to six intelligent grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Her unconditional love for her children was a defining characteristic that those close to her will always cherish. She held a steadfast and unwavering love for her sons Jawara Myles, Meredith Myles, and Kaylib Kyng, as well as her grandchildren Chayce Jenson, Logan Kyng, Asiyah Greene-Myles, Kamiyah Jenson, Amir Cromartie-Myles, and Khalif Greene-Myles.
A close-knit family member, Valerie is survived by her loving siblings: Lynda McDaniel Ruffin, Adolphus Myles Jr., Rodney Myles, Janice Branning, and Lois Myles. Her life was also touched by the memory of her late sister Phyllis Myles (1954–1976), her father Adolphus Myles Sr. (1931–1994), her mother Evelyn Myles (1930–2025), and her granddaughter Kiara Curtis-Kyng, who passed in infancy (2023).
Valerie’s warmth extended beyond family, reflected in cherished memories such as gathering every Fourth of July with loved ones. Clad comfortably in shorts, drop socks, and a T-shirt, she joyfully hosted celebrations filled with grilled delicacies, fresh seafood and fruit salads, and vibrant fireworks lighting up the sky. These moments captured her spirit—always present, open, and nurturing.
Her interests included quiet evenings spent watching classic television programs such as Gunsmoke, Murder She Wrote, and Perry Mason, further illustrating her appreciation for storytelling and tradition.
Valerie’s personality could be summed up as kind, empathetic, compassionate, loving, and respectful—qualities that made her a beacon of love and strength for her family and friends. Her legacy is one of devotion, perseverance, and unconditional love.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Valerie Myles’s life is a testament to the power of love and dedication, and she leaves behind a treasured legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
