Walter Dean Lerchenfeld, known for his goofy humor and kind spirit, passed away on March 18, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on August 25, 1956, in Potsdam, New York, Walter spent his life dedicated to both his family and his passion for cars and motorcycles.
Walter's career as an automotive mechanic became more than just a job; it was an expression of his love for racing and the intricacies of machinery. His ability to connect with others through laughter and a warm smile made him a cherished figure in both his professional and personal life.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his son Walter F. Lerchenfeld and daughter-in-law Kimberly Lerchenfeld, who admired him deeply. He is also survived by his son Thomas J. Lerchenfeld, and his grandchildren, Rosanna L. Lerchenfeld, Ariana X. Lerchenfeld, and Walter R. Lerchenfeld, who brought him immense joy and pride. His legacy extends to his brothers, Erich and Jeff Lerchenfeld, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews who will carry on his vibrant spirit.
Walter was predeceased by his wife Margaret "Peggy" Anne Lerchenfeld (2016), and his parents, Walter Arthur Lerchenfeld (2008) and Teresa Ann Timkin (2025). While his absence will be deeply felt, the moments shared and the laughter he spread will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Walter Dean Lerchenfeld's joyful spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
