Wayne Richard Hulit

Wayne Richard Hulit, 77, died on May 6, 2026, at his home in Loudoun County, Virginia, surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness.

Wayne was born October 19, 1948, in South Amboy, New Jersey, to Harry and Ruth Hulit. Raised in an Irish Catholic family, he attended St. Mary’s Catholic schools in South Amboy and later St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Curious, fearless, and mischievous from an early age, Wayne fondly remembered a childhood spent finding adventure, and occasionally trouble, around South Amboy.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972 with the Army Signal Corps, completing tours in Vietnam and Italy. His work as a communications specialist launched a decades-long career in the technology industry, including work at the forefront of video conferencing. He continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and later earned a Master of Business Administration from Suffolk University. Later in his career, Wayne supported FEMA emergency response efforts, overseeing and maintaining portable satellite systems deployed to sites around the country. A lifelong tinkerer who could fix almost anything, he eventually put those talents to work in his own business, Cedar Mountain RVI, repairing and upgrading recreational vehicles.

Wayne had an endless supply of interests and an equal appetite for adventure. A longtime runner, he completed his first marathon at age 50 and ran the Army Ten-Miler more than 20 times with his friend Tom. He loved hiking and camping, his Harley-Davidson, RV travel, history, biographies, old movies, robots, whiskey and bourbon, and spending hours working in his man cave. He especially loved hot weather and was rarely one to pass up an opportunity to sit in the sun and work on his tan.

Friendly, curious, kind, generous, tenacious, easygoing, and loyal, Wayne had a wonderful sense of humor and was genuinely interested in both people and the world around him. He was someone you could count on for help, advice, encouragement, a good conversation, or an enthusiastic yes to an adventure.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruth Hulit. He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Ann Jones; his children, Ed Hulit, Jessica Hulit, and Michael Hulit; his sisters, Ruth Uloth and Diane Hulit; and his grandchildren, Ellie, Luke, Jackson, and Ava. He is also survived by Ann’s daughter, Katie McGrath, and her son, Eddie, to whom Wayne was a beloved grandfather.

Wayne will be remembered for his curiosity, humor, generosity, and adventurous spirit, and perhaps most of all for the way he showed up for the people he loved: ready to help, ready to listen, ready to laugh, and ready for whatever came next.
