It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved father, Wayne Francis Starliper. Wayne passed away February 14, 2026, at Paramount Senior Living in Manassas, Virginia at the age of 95.

Wayne was born on May 5, 1930, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the first child of the late Paul A. and Hazel V. Starliper. He was a good student in school and enjoyed sports. He earned a letter in baseball and basketball while attending Martinsburg High School, met his future wife Mary Wilburn there, graduated in 1948, and enlisted in the United States Air Force afterwards.

Wayne served his country for 3 years stationed mostly at Perrin Air Force Base, near the cities of Sherman and Denison and eventually making the rank of Staff Seargent in charge of 6 aircraft maintenance specialists, “the best job I ever had” he would tell us. After returning to West Virginia, Wayne continued his career with Fairchild Industries and then Melpar where he worked as an aircraft parts inspector. Wayne eventually moved his family to Falls Church, Virginia where he joined the US Postal Service, raised his family, and retired as the Station Manager at the Turnpike Station office in Fairfax, Virginia.

In addition to his family, Wayne loved dedicating his time to Little League Baseball. Starting as a coach in the Tyson’s Federal Little league, he moved onto umpiring, not only baseball but softball too, and even represented District 4 umpiring in the Little League World series in Williamsport, PA . Wayne finished his Little League service as a tournament director including his own “Papa Wayne Starliper Tournament” for 9 and 10 year old All Stars.

Wayne was also an active and dedicated member of St. Lukes Methodist Church in Falls Church, Virginia, where he enjoyed his service and fellowship with other members for 50+ years.

In addition to his parents and three siblings, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Starliper and son, Gary Wayne Starliper.

He is survived by his children, Charles R. Starliper (Deborah A.) of Peletier, NC, Elayne M. Burke (Bernard W.) of Peletier, NC, and Paul W. Starliper (Marjorie L.) of Manassas, VA. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Sarah, Joshua, Andrew, Matthew, Nathan, Ryan, and Aaron along with five great grandchildren Cooper, Benson, Lucy, Ethan, and Lyra. He will be missed by so many other family and friends.

At the family’s request there will be no service at this time, but a celebration of life will be planned when all family members are able to attend.
