Wilbur Abner Wright, Jr., beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, died Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Washington, DC after a long illness. He was 82 years old.
Wilbur was predeceased by his wife, Lois Wright, his mother, Ruth Ellen Freeman, his brother, James Wright, his step-father, James Freeman, his biological father, Wilbur A. Wright, Sr. and his dog of 19 years, Dakota.
Wilbur was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was a professional bowler in the 70's and 80's. He won numerous bowling tournaments. He would boast about the number of times he got "Turkey" when bowling. He loved to cook and grill. And was known for grilling the "best steaks ever" with his own secret homemade recipe of special seasoning and making his special "Goulash". He was a long distance truck driver with Bay West Transportation for over 35 years. He will be missed for his off the wall jokes, his great sense of humor, and being a big prankster.
Wilbur is survived by his children, Traya and Tronn Wright. His granddaughter, Amariana Lois Wright. His sisters Barbara Brown and Faye Freeman-Smith, his brother-in- law, Wayon M. Smith Jr., his sister-in-law, Vern Wright, his nieces Sherrelle Freeman, Melissa Smith, Stacey Wright, and nephews (JJ) James Wright, Jr., Alton Wright, Wayon M. Smith Jr., and his girlfriend, Loretta Webster. Adopted in his heart as daughter's Vicky Clayter Lowndes and Angie Webster. He also had countless cousins and numerous family members by his marriage to Lois Wright.
A memorial dinner will be held in his honor at a later date. Family and friends will be notified with details in the near future. His children want to send a special thanks to all the family members that contributed to their fathers' final expenses and really appreciate all the love given to them during this time of losing their father.
