William “Will” Turanchik, 58, of Alexandria, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on February 6th after a long illness. Will was born, raised, and spent much of his life in the Akron, Ohio area and later moved to Alexandria. Will was a friend to many, a talented leader, and a gifted athlete. He played Division I soccer for Cleveland State University. He held an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Akron and a Master’s degree in Professional Studies from Georgetown University. He was an accomplished runner, competing in numerous marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
He will be remembered for his volunteerism. He was an active alumnus of University of Akron chapter of Phi Delta Theta and was part of the Leadership Institute faculty at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He received numerous awards for leadership and was instrumental in opening a new charter at George Mason University. He volunteered with Girls on the Run, the Alzheimer’s Association, and other organizations. Will had a successful career at AT&T, working in government solutions and cybersecurity.
Will was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Turanchik, and is survived by his father, Bill Turanchik; sisters Linda Turanchik and Susan (Greg) Sherry; brother Bob (Tammy) Turanchik; nieces and nephews, Alissa (Dan) Weybrecht, Laura (James) Cooper, Nathan (Alexa) Sherry, and Andrew Turanchik; great-nieces and nephews, Emma, Evelyn, Esther and Henry Weybrecht, Violet, Carl, and Pearl Cooper.
A service will be held in remembrance of Will at Falls Berean Bible Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on February 20th, 2025, at 6 pm. His ashes will be interred at Tallmadge Cemetery.
