William R. Vaughn (87), of Clifton, VA (formerly of Lehighton, PA), passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home on the morning of February 2nd, 2026. William was born in Black Log Valley (PA) on May 4th, 1938. He left behind his wife, Martha (Bretz) Vaughn, to whom he was married for 68 happy years. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Grace Vaughn, both of Lehighton. He is survived by 3 children: Lori Keller (wife of Todd) and William Vaughn, Jr. (husband of Angelina) both in VA as well as a daughter Jeanne Warner (widow of William) in PA. He is also survived by a sister, Eulalia Steigerwalt (wife of Wayne), who resides in Lehighton. He was a proud and beloved "Poppop" to 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. He was a graduate of Palmerton Area High School and later obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University. He served in the US Army for 4 years as a Cryptographer in Alaska during the Cold War and attained many marksmanship awards. He was employed by the Mobil Corporation until his retirement in 1992. He began his career with the organization as an oil tanker driver and climbed the ladder to the peak of his career in Mobil's Executive Corporate Headquarters. He was an avid golfer and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He happily resided with his daughter Lori and her family where he enjoyed gardening and caring for various farm animals. He was a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State Nittany Lions. He will be missed by many and remembered for his hard work, loyalty and sense of humor. Services will be private at the convenience of the family in VA.
