Zakarey Demoyne Jones, known to family and friends as "Zack” was born on April 28,1959 in Mobile Alabama to the late Ruth Lee (Woodyard) Jones. He departed this life peacefully the morning of June 25, 2025 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA.
Zack grew up in Sacramento, CA where he attended church and accepted Christ at an early age. He graduated from Norte del Rio High School. He went on to work at various jobs in California before relocating to Alexandria, VA in the mid 1980’s.
After relocating to Virginia, Zack obtained an interest in fashion where he worked in sales for approximately 30 years of his career at Hecht’s which later was acquired by Macy’s. Zack was by far a well-dressed man with his tailored fitting suits, polished leather shoes and quality jewelry. With his outgoing personality and warm welcoming to people that he met, it was obvious that sales was a good career for him. Zack retired from his long standing career in 2020.
Zack was a hardworking, devoted and loving son, husband and brother, who continued to push through his health challenges. He showed so much faith, persistence and endurance that spoke: “Despite what you are going through and the challenges you face, count not only blessings you consider “big” count all blessings.”
On July 28, 1989, Zack married his wife Darcel E. Cunningham. Zack’s profound love for his wife is what gave him the motivation and drive to keep pushing. He would refer to her as “Baby” or “Mrs. Jones.” The love he had for his wife was known to all who was around him. If he could have made a worldwide broadcast professing his love to her, just know, the world would have known how much he loved his wife. There is so much truth in the quote that states: “To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world.” Darcel was in fact seen in Zack’s eyes as his world.
Zack had a passion for spending quality time with his wife, going to the casino and traveling to visit his family whom he deeply loved. He was truly a family man. He also enjoyed watching a variety of sports; basketball, baseball and football with the San Francisco 49ers being his favorite football team. He also loved listening to different genres of music, but in particular he enjoyed hip-hop/rap music. Specifically hip-hop artists from the West Coast.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife of 36 years, Darcel of Lorton, VA, two brothers; Hiram of Clinton, MD and Terrance (Deana E.) of Sacramento, CA, three sisters; Cynthia of Gulfport, MS, Gwen of Sacramento, CA, Deana (Freeman) of Sacramento, CA and two aunts; Willie B. Anderson of Bronx, NY and Mae Helen Ezell of Mobile, AL and ten nieces and nephews; Latisha, Cameron, David, Marko, Lauren, Jazmin, Terran, Terrance, II, Cierra and Christian and a host of other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and also a nephew, Donikos Jones and a niece, Brittanie Williams.
